The economy is shifting and so are the trends in live entertainment. This panel discussed what the hottest new trends are and what shows are packing the house.
Recently we’ve seen an outcropping of young musicians with an even younger audience, as well as “kiddy rock”, adult bands geared towards both parents and children. These acts have scored TV shows, movies, and sold out concerts across the country. How have marketing tactics adapted to this young target demographic?
We’ve also seen a trend in the exact opposite direction: classic rock bands making the rounds on comeback tours attracting the same fans from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s as well as some new fans from this generation. These bands are finding that the sky’s the limit as far as ticket prices go, but how long before these old friends wear out their welcome?
The third trend we’ve seen is package tours; three to five headliners in an all-afternoon festival in some of the country’s biggest arenas. The question is, are they actually raking in the dough or is the number of seats being sold versus the big name acts watering down the net profit?

Panelists include Rob Beckham, Senior Vice President of William Morris Agency; Gil Cunningham, President of Neste Event Marketing and IEBA Immediate Past President; Pam Matthews, Owner of DuVoyant Music; Kevin O'Connell, President of Country Music Touring at Live Nation; moderated by IEBA Executive Director Tiffany Davis.
