Director of Civic Facilities, Salem, VA

Born and raised in Salem, Virginia. Carey began work at the Salem Civic Center In 1967 and was named director on October 1, 1983. Presently he serves as director of civic facilities with responsibility for the civic center, Salem Stadium (8000 seats-football) and Salem Memorial Stadium (6300 seats-baseball). He manages the Salem Fair-a 300,000 free gate fair that was founded by Carey and John Saunders 21 years ago and serves as game manager/tournament director for NCAA Championships hosted by the City of Salem, which at this time includes Division III football, men's basketball, softball and women's lacrosse. In addition, Carey supervises a staff of 26 including Salem Catering that handles all food in the civic center and two outlying athletic fields.
